Photography
I'm freelance photographer, my photography is a pasion not a profession and I prefer to keep it that way. Staying clear of economic interests I can explore the areas that attracts my curriosity and develop my creativity.
I like location photography, indoor or outdoor, to take advantage of the natural light and the context and depth provided by the surroundings. I think it sharpens the eye to see and explore wherever you go. I'd like to do glamour or life-style photography and create a photo feature.
I also work with video, this is more demanding and requires more planification. I'd like to one day create a short movie. I have a number of ideas and projects in different stages of development and planning.
Modelling
If you're a model or would like to enter into the world of modelling, you need a book or at least a composite to present yourself for work. Your can create your book doing sessions particularly for the book. This allows you more liberty to decide how you want to present yourself. You may also consider creating a video which can be posted online or sent as a DVD.
Performing
If you're a actor, dancer or other performer, then you should consider creating your reel, this is sort of a video book showing your qualities as performer. You still need a book or a composite, but you must invest more in a good reel. If you do not have material from previous performances, you need to create this.
TFP/TFCD
TFP, Time for Photos, or TFCD, Time for CD, are sessions where both parts, model or actor and the photographer work for the mutual benefit, neither model or photographer gets paid, instead both get photos for their respective books and portfolios.
Sessions TFP/TFCD are a great way to get photos for your book, if you're starting as a new talent or you need to update your book with new photos. If you have successfully launched your professional carreer then you might consider paying for the photos as it gives you the control and the liberty to decide what kind of photos you want taken.
Legal matters
The legal matters are usually borring but should not be ignored. Make sure to request a copy of the contract before going to the session, read it carefully and ask to clarify any doubts. As for contracts, really anything can be negotiated, there is no standard, so pay attention to the details.
I only do sessions, whether TFP/TFCD or paid, with the signing of a contract by everyone involved. This is fundamental in order to ensure a clean chain of rights.
