Who I am not

I occasionally search google and other search engines for myself to see my ranking, or rather the ranking of this site, and I do also occasionally get mails from people who wish to contact some other Erik Norgaard. So I have decided to dedicate this page to the people I am not to clear things up.

My name, Erik Nørgaard, is actually relatively common. The last name being one of the 10 most common in Denmark. My first name is less common in my generation - in Denmark that is. I don't have more names, first or last.

On the Internet I often write my last name with an "o" rather than "ø" because it is easier, foreign people do not understand the Danish letter "ø" and though this is correctly transcribed as "oe" this is unknown to foreigners. I think the "o" is visually more pleasing as it is more similar to the correct "ø". Some spellings write "å" rather than the "aa". The "aa" is antigue spelling, but since my name is a name rather than a word, this has not changed with the introduction of the letter "å" in the 1950'es. My first name can be written with a "c" or a "k" and I have seen "ck" is common in South America. In my case the correct spelling is with "k".

So, searching for me, you should search "Erik Norgaard" or "Erik Nørgaard". Results may be ranked differently according to spelling, obviously, exact match will be ranked higher. But the major search engines will match all the alternative spellings.

Unfortunately, my site does not rank first, at least on google, among the matches that somehow refer to me. Even some old pages, previous web sites that still exist for the only purpose of refering to this site rank higher. On google I saw my ranking drop 3 years ago when I experimented with a blog that got spammed. The site has never recovered.

Now for the other Erik Nørgaards:

I have long wrestled with a wrestler from Columbia University for top rank on google. His name is actually "Erik Reed Norgaard". Whenever something mentions wrestling, it is not me.

In Denmark there is an author that is not me. I have never read anything he has written, and I don't know who he is, I am not in family with him or named after him. His Internet presence is limited at least outside Denmark, so I've been confused with him.

Finally there is my old neighbour, whose name really is "Erik Christian Nørgaard", but he leaves out "Christian". He's not so easy to find, on the web. It appears that currently he's emplyed at Håndværksrådet, politisk afdeling.

I think he once purchased the domain eriknorgaard.com, but this now belongs to an Erik Norgaard in Los Angeles who does media work, art direction and stuff. Given my latest adventures into video, he may be the one I can identify most with, but he's not me either.

If you are also Erik Nørgaard and think some one may confuse you with me, maybe send me a note and I will see to add you to the list of people who are not me.
