Day 2: Posada San Pedro to Boca Manu lodge

Posted: .

The second day proved to be mostly a travel day. We got op at 5.00 to go to the Cock of the Rock observation platform. A large group of students from Cusco were also at the site. The birds are mostly active around dawn, but difficult to get a good clear view of through the branches. It is unknown why they come to this spot every day.

Around 7 we got on the bus to drive to Atalaya. This is not the end of the road, but nevertheless frequently used departure point for going down the river. At 10, the group going back arrived and the boat was reloaded with our equipment, food and luggage. Going down river, we stopped at the village at the end of the road to refuel. Then we had lunch at the Pantiacolla lodge.

After lunch, we continued down river past Boca Manu to a lodge right next to the Boca Manu air strip. On the way down the river we spotted a capybara, the worlds largest rodent, but otherwise the tour was rather dull.

At night our guide took us for a night walk around the lodge, not much wildlife but loads of insects, a few frogs and a lizard. I didn't bring my camera thinking it would be impossible to get any pictures in that low light condition.
